Irish Finance Minister Pascal Donahiou was re -elected today, head of the Eurogroup, the informal team involving his counterparts in the eurozone countries.

Donahiou, 50, was the only candidate after earlier, Spanish finance ministers Carlos Kerpo and Lithuania Rimantas Satzius withdrew their candidacy earlier.

This will be the third consecutive, two -and -a -and – – – – – –ally -the -a -half -year term of the Irish minister in the Eurogroup.

Expressing his gratitude to his counterparts for his re -election, Pascal Donahiou, who performs the duties of the Eurogroup president since July 2020, said: “In front of significant geopolitical changes, the euro area has proven to be very durable. It will be my duty to further strengthen our common monetary zone and facilitate tangible progress in our main axes of work during this next term – from fiscal coordination to capital markets and from digital euro to banking union. A stronger and more competitive euro zone will enhance the international role of the euro, further enhance our durability and prosperity for the benefit of our citizens
