It was September 2012 when Brad Squires and Anita Moran decided to close their romantic picnic on the island of Bell, Canada, throwing a bottle containing a handwritten note for the day they spent together.
The young couple was about a year in a relationship but lived separately that time, which made their meeting that day, as Anita said in an interview with the Washington Post. Brad had been postponed to the Royal Canadian Equestrian Police in British Colombia, while she was trained to become a nurse in New Earth and Labrador, he explained.
“After drank the contents of the bottle, it seemed to me romantic to do so,” Anita said. “We wrote a personal, erotic note, without imagining that anyone can read it someday.”
Nearly 13 years later, Kate and John Gay, who were walking on a beach on the west coast of Ireland, nearly 2,000 miles away, on the other side of the Atlantic, found the bottle in the note.
They walked along the Maharees section of the coastline in West Ireland when they found the bottle Monday, according to the Maharees Heritage and Conservation team, which published the news on Facebook.
Martha Farrell, co -founder of the Maharees Conservation Association, told the Post that Kate decided to open the bottle and read the message it contained before the whole team.
Everyone was excited and had woke them up to find out what the message was writing. So he said: “The one -day journey of Anita and Brad on the island of Bell. Today we enjoyed our dinner, which we accompanied with this bottle of wine and had companionship. If you find that particular message please call us. ” The number of a phone was followed.
Unfortunately, the phone number was not working, the team made a toast, each raising their moor without alcohol in the health of Anita and Brad. They wished them away in this way the best.
Farrell then posted the event on social media by sparking a wave of searches by amateur detectives trying to locate the mysterious Brad and the mysterious Anita. The news went viral and people were wondering: are the couple still together?
Being at her home in Portugal Cove-St Philips, Anita said she was putting her son to sleep when her phones and Brad began to vibrate with messages. Within an hour, she was in touch with Farrell and was able to confirm that she and Brad were still together – in fact, they got married in 2016 and have three children.
“It was the ideal ending of the story to learn that they are still together,” Farrell told the Washington Post.
He said it was a “serendipity” for a member of the group that is involved in climate change to find a bottle and a story that crossed an ocean and connected two worlds on both sides of the Atlantic.
“It was like an erotic letter to preserve at that time in time,” she said.
The team has invited the couple to Ireland next year to celebrate its 10th anniversary, which coincides with Squires’ 10 -year wedding anniversary. Anita, who comes from Prince Edward Island, also works to connect the Irish team with other local Canadian initiatives.
“We were so surprised when we heard that this had happened and how long the story has happened,” said Anita, who has since changed her last name to Squires. “A personal moment between Brad and me so many years ago it is now so far away and it is so great that it is difficult to believe.”
As for what Squires ‘children think about their parents’ history, Anita said she didn’t affect them.
“We always loved each other. We’ve always had a happy relationship, so I think they just think it’s something like a cute icing on the cake, “he said.
