The Washington Court of Appeal has again revoked the Halid Sheikh Mohammed Confession Agreement, which is considered the “brain” of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks in the US, further delaying the hearing before the military court.
With two votes in favor of one against, the Court of Appeal reinstated the decision of former Defense Minister Lloyd Austin, who in August 2024 had canceled the agreements that allowed Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and two co -defendants to confess to confess.
The preliminary rulings came into force by a military judge in November.
“The minister acted within the limits of his legal powers and we do not wish to question his judgment,” the Court of Appeal said, concluding that there was a series of “undeniable mistakes” by the military judge.
Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, Walid Bin Atas and Mustafa al -Hausawa, all three in the military prison of the US base in Guantanamo, Cuba, are accused of terrorism and killing almost 3,000 people on the US 11th attacks.
The terms of the guilt confession agreement have not been made public. However, according to US media reports, the three defendants had agreed to report guilty in return for sentenced to life imprisonment and avoiding the death penalty.
