Iranian justice has announced that it had publicly hanged the dawn of a man today, who was found guilty of rape and murder of a little girl in northwestern Iran.

The judicial proceedings had begun in January and the defendant was sentenced to death in March.

The execution took place in public and publicly “at the request of the family and citizens, due to the emotional impact of the case in society,” said Nasser Atabati, a prosecutor of the western Azerbaijan province, bordering Turkey.

No details have been made known about the girl’s age and the profile of the perpetrator, nor when the crime was committed.

Murders and rapes are punished with the death penalty in Iran, the second country in the world to carry out the most executions after China, according to human rights defense organizations, mainly International Amnesty.

Public executions are generally hanged and dawn.
