War in Ukraine: 75,000 refugees have arrived in Italy

by

Italian Interior Minister Luciana Lamorgeze, speaking today in the parliament of Rome, underlined that “since the outbreak of the war until today, 75,115 Ukrainian citizens have arrived in Italy”. “More specifically, these are 38,373 women, 7,158 men and 29,222 minors,” the minister added.

At the same time, Lamorjeze stressed that “from the first day of the Russian invasion until today, 3,700,000 people have left Ukraine”, while “in recent days, at a European level, there has been a decrease in arrivals.” In all, of the 75,115 refugees who arrived in Italy, only 5,600 have applied to use the host system set up by the Draghi government, in collaboration with municipalities, regions and voluntary organizations. The rest are hosted in the homes of relatives and friends.

So far only 750 applications for international protection have been submitted. “This is a clear indication that the Ukrainians, who have come to our country, hope to be able to return to their homeland when the war is over,” the Italian interior minister concluded.
