At least 11 people are missing after the sailboat has turned off Sumatra, a island of Western Indonesia, the Research and Rescue Service said today.

The boat wrecked Monday at 11:00 (local time; 07:00 Greek time), as it sailed to the marine area near the Mandawai islands, an archipelago off the west coast of Sumatra, the source said.

“We are focusing on the hairstyle of the area around which we estimate that the accident was done to find all the victims”said the head of the Rudy service, who, like many others in Indonesia, only uses that name.

Seven passengers, out of the 18s who were rescued.

Naval accidents are often in Indonesia – a stakeholder archipelago of some 17,000 islands, large and small – partly because of the unequal application of transport security regulations and the bad state of ships operating daily.

At the beginning of this month, a ferry with 65 passengers and crew members wrecked Bali off, causing at least sixteen people to lose their lives.

In March, a boatman carrying 16 people in the midst of a sea, also off the island of Bali, a particularly popular tourist destination. A woman, a national Australian, lost her life and at least another man was injured.
