The British Interior Ministry has begun research after the Politicshome website was revealed that asylum seekers throughout the United Kingdom use taxpayers’ cards to play to play Gambling.
When asylum seekers enter the United Kingdom, they are granted an “Aspen” card from the interior ministry which they can use to spend money on basic items while waiting for their request.
Those who reside in full -feed hotels receive £ 9.95 a week on their card. When asylum seekers are transferred to accommodation with the ability to make their own meals, they receive £ 49.18 per week.
These cards are intended for food, personal hygiene, clothing and other essentials. However, according to data presented by Politicshome, 6,537 asylum seekers have used cards in gambling over the last year throughout the United Kingdom, with efforts to be made on a weekly basis.
A spokesman for the interior ministry said: “The interior ministry has begun an investigation into the use of Aspen cards. The Ministry of the Interior has a legal obligation to support asylum seekers, including any dependent members, who would otherwise be in poverty. “
