Rises the estimate of the forthcoming investment by German companies in the country, however the latest items from the polls They show that the political image remains fluid. The issue is commented by Kostas Argyros.
The Chancellor of Germany, Friedrich Mertzhe is preparing for this year’s two -week break, however, it is certain that his mind will be concerned with “even on holidays”. The most enjoyable development concerns the initiative *’made for Germany’ *.
Investment announcements and footnotes
In the past few days, heads of the largest German companies (60 men and just one woman) visited the Chancellery and promised total investments of 631 billion euros for the next three years. A catalyst for these commitments is played by *”economic patriotism” *, which is projected as a means of returning the German economy to a growth track. The numbers are impressed, prompting positive comments from both economists and liberal and conservative circles.
But there are significant remarks. As an ARD public television analyst commented, many prominent investments were already scheduled for the Tenf Salt period. Therefore, the truly new chapter of these € 631 billion remains unclear.
Equally important is that industrialists and bankers set strict conditions for investing, such as tax exemptionsreduction of labor costs and shrinking bureaucracy, even by removing certain ecological or ethical restrictions on the operation of supply chains. There are also suggestions for reducing public holidays, in a trend adopting several European countries.
Mertz appears willing to adopt many of them in order to keep investors in Germany. However, within the government coalition, the Social Democrats are concerned about the course of the welfare state and the possible reactions of their social base.
Damn the latest polls
On the opposite bank of the numbers are the polls. In a recent measure of last Tuesday, coalition parties appeared to raise only 38%, a decline of seven points from 45% of the elections – and less than 100 days after the start of the new governance.
OR Christian Union Mertz reaches 25%, as is the far -right *Alternative for Germany (AfD) *, which is constantly gaining ground. The Social Democrats are limited to 13%, only one unit above the Greens and the Left. In other surveys, the difference of the Christian Union from the AfD is limited to two or three units.
The government image is characterized by low confidence, while partners’ disagreements – on critical issues such as immigration or attitude to Gaza – are strongly manifested. Despite Mertz’s expectations that *”Germany is returning” *, 54% of citizens believe that the situation will get worse in the coming years, 20% predict stagnation and only 23% maintain optimism for improvement.
Even more alarming about Chancellor is the data on his popularity: 64% are dissatisfied with his leadership, while 67% do not consider him reliable. Positive opinions are limited to 32% and 29% respectively.
These numbers show that political uncertainty in Germany remains high – and they certainly leave no room for carefree holidays, even in a Chancellor with strong links to the country’s economic elite.
