Trump thanked British Prime Minister Kir Starmer for helping the release of hostages held in Gaza during their meeting in Scotland, but added that talks with Hamas have become difficult in recent days and estimated that they would not be released.
He pointed out, however, that he was talking to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu about “various plans” for the release of hostages that are still being held in the enclave.
The US president told reporters that “the fight should be a little different” between Gaza and Israel in the future, according to the BBC.
He added that he proposed to the Prime Minister of Israel to approach the conflict in a “different way”.
“A ceasefire is possible,” he noted, noting that there would be “six big wars” if it didn’t exist.
Trump also said that the US will work with other countries to provide more humanitarian aid to the Gaza people, including food and hygiene.
“We will create food centers”, without fences or boundaries, to facilitate access, Trump told reporters after meeting with the British Prime Minister.
Kir Starmer, for his part, described the humanitarian situation in Gaza “absolutely unacceptable” and said that he had to move quickly to the pocket food aid.
“We need to mobilize other countries to support the introduction of this aid, and yes, this implies pressure on Israel because it is absolutely for a humanitarian disaster,” he said.
Meanwhile, Egyptian President Abdel Fatah al -Sisi called on Donald Trump on Monday to make every effort to end the Gaza war and allow humanitarian aid to enter the damaged Palestinian pocket.
Sisi and Trump have long been warm relationships. Egypt, Qatar and the United States have been involved in the search for a truce between Israel and Hamas since the war broke out on October 7, 2023, Reuters notes.
