A new control system of the border to monitor hundreds of millions of people entering the European Union It will take place every year in October, after repeated delays, according to the Bloomberg agency. The implementation of the entry/exit system, known as the EES, will begin on October 12 in phases, with EU countries expected to implement the system within six months. The new system will record the data of third -country nationals entering 29 European countries, according to today’s Commission announcement, registering their biometric data, including fingerprints and their face image.

The system aims to simplify the entry process for non -EU citizens, while at the same time combating illegal entry and identity forgery. As Bloomberg notes, the measure had to come into force last November, but it was delayed because many Member States were not ready.

Several travel associations had also warned of the rushing of the system in order to avoid chaos at airports and other entry points.

“With the implementation of the EES system in October, the EU is taking a significant step towards achieving its goal of creating a safer and efficient border management system,” the Commission said in its statement.
