Iranian judicial authorities announced today that three men convicted of thefts were subjected to hand amputation, a penalty that is rarely required but provided for in the Iranian Criminal Code. It is usually applied in cases of recurrence of crimes.

“The penalty of hand amputation for three professional thieves who had committed a plethora of thefts was executed in the province of Western Azerbaijan.”in northwestern Iran, as reported by the Iranian Mizan Online agency, which is affiliated with the country’s judicial authorities.

According to the same source, the convicts had been arrested several years ago, and there were dozens of complaints from various provinces of the country.

Mizan Online emphasizes that amputation was implemented after the Supreme Court ratified the sentence after the convicts’ refusal to return the theft – mainly gold jewelry.

According to local media, a guillotine machine was used in the central prisons of Orumie, to amputate the fingers of 3 prisoners (by Hadi Rostami, Mehdi Sarafian and Mehdi Sachivandou) who had been convicted of theft. Chained, with tied eyes and handcuffs, men suffered amputation on four fingers in their right hand.

In recent years, non -governmental organizations for the protection of human rights have repeatedly condemned the execution of amputations in Iran.

The Ihrngo human rights organization, in its post, condemns in the most categorical way, harsh and inhumane punishment and calls for international pressure on Iran to abolish such medieval penalties.
