With an old guard of believers and younger economic actors in his mission, Vladimir Putin is, estimates, to win Donald Trump’s favor and offers financial incentives aimed at adopting Moscow’s positions in Ukrainian.
The Russian leader will be surrounded by some of the most powerful Kremlin Circle figures, experienced political operators, economic generals and hard -core diplomats that have shaped Russia’s foreign and economic policy for more than two decades.
It is noteworthy that, along with a group of experienced diplomats, Putin brings with him two prominent financial advisers.
The presence of Finance Minister Anton Siluanov is particularly impressive, as he has overseen Russia’s reaction to sweeping western sanctions, whose removal is a consistent and central demand of the Kremlin for any peace agreement.
The list of faces sheds light on the possible agenda of the meeting in Alaska.
The five -member shipment includes:
- President’s assistant, Yuri Usakov
- Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov
- Defense Minister Andrei Belusov
- Finance Minister Anton Siluanov
- The head of the Russian Investment Fund, Kiril Dmitriyev
Lavrov and Usakov are experienced diplomats and play a central role in shaping Russian foreign policy. Lavrov has been led by the Foreign Ministry for more than 20 years, while Usakov, a key presidential adviser for over a decade, previously served as a Russian ambassador to the US.
The presence of Belusov and Siluanov shows that the agenda will include not only the war in Ukraine, but also strategic security issues and the issue of sanctions.
Dmitriyev is known for his ties to the Putin family and his contribution to the Kremlin’s efforts to create contacts with the US and the international business community.
