The object that landed during the night in a corn farm in Eastern Poland is a Russian version of the Iranian unmanned Shahad aircraft, Poal Foreign Ministry spokesman Powell Bronzki told Reuters.
Poland has been on a state of high alert for objects entering its airspace since a stray Ukrainian rocket hit the village of Southern Poland in 2022, killing two people.
Vice-President of the Polish Government and Defense Minister Viantislav Kosiniak-Kamis confirmed that the drone that fell to Poland at night is now believed to come from Russia.
“Russia is once again provoking NATO countries, after incidents with drones in Romania, Lithuania and Latvia,” he said.
“This is happening at a particularly critical moment when discussions on peace are in progress. It is happening at a time when there is hope that the war launched by Russia, a war against the Ukrainian state, but also a war that threatens the security of NATO countries, has a chance to end. “
