German Chancellor Friedrich Mertz and Canada Prime Minister Mark Carni, as they themselves announced during a press conference at the two leaders, agreed on Tuesday.
“We deepen our bilateral cooperation, and we do it with great gratitude and deep conviction,” Merz said, adding: “Canada and Germany have a lot in common.”
Strengthening the cooperation of the two countries was decided at a time when US President Donald Trump duties have been hit by both countries, which at the same time seek to detach their industries from Russia and China.
As part of the strengthening of Germany and Canada’s financial links, the two countries’ finance ministers are going to sign an agreement on critical minerals, which Politico has been aware of.
The agreement will focus on the development of lithium, rare land, copper-elderly, galli, Germany and nickel, in order to detach from China’s monopoly control to specific critical minerals necessary for numerous applications from the manufacture of military equipment and electric vehicles.
“One of the main vulnerable points revealed by the war in Ukraine, the Covid pandemic, the changing dynamics of world trade, [είναι] Our vulnerability in supply chains, including critical metals and minerals, “Karni said. “Canada can play a role in accelerating the differentiation of Germany and Europe.”
Like Brussels, Berlin wants to limit its dependence on China in terms of the so -called critical minerals required by the “green”, digital and defensive ambitions of the bloc. Ottawa is an attractive partner to achieve this goal, as Canada has about 200 mines where many minerals and minerals are mined, many of which are classified as critical raw materials.
Some members of the Canadian Council of Council, such as Defense Minister David McGuidi, Minister of Industry Melanie Zoli and Energy Minister Tim Hodzson, accompanied Carni in Berlin.
Carni also announced that he will visit Thyssenkrupp Marine Systems in Kiel later on Tuesday, along with Zoli and McGuidy, while Hoxon is going to give a speech to Managing Director of Industry, Energy, Manufacturing and Defense.
“We are in the process of renewing the fleet of our submarines,” Karni said, adding that Thyssenkrupp Marine Systems is one of the two finalists to undertake the project.
Carni and Metz also said they discussed the issue of security guarantees for Ukraine, but without providing further details.
