Its chairman International Committee of the Red Cross today denounced Israeli plans for a mass evacuation of the city of Gazastressing that it is “impossible” to apply “safe and decent”.

“It is impossible to proceed with a mass evacuation of the city of Gaza in a safe and decent way, under the current circumstances,” Miriana Spoliaric said in a press release.

“Such evacuation would cause a massive population movement that no zone in the Gaza Strip can absorb, given the extensive destruction of political infrastructure and extreme deficiencies in food, water, shelter and medical care,” he said.

The Israeli army declared the city of Gaza yesterday, preparing a large -scale attack, as the Benjamin Netanyahu government wants, with the aim of defeating Hamas and the return of all hostages.

The army did not explicitly demand the evacuation of the city, but a press spokesman found on Wednesday that it would be “inevitable”.

“Many civilians will not be able to obey an evacuation order because they are hungry, they are sick, injured,” said Miriana Spoliaric.

“If an evacuation order is given under international humanitarian law, Israel must do everything it can to ensure that civilians benefit from satisfactory housing, hygiene, safety and access (…). These conditions are not currently fulfilled in Gaza. “

“This would make every evacuation not only impossible, but also incomprehensible under the present circumstances,” she said.

According to UN estimates, about 1 million Palestinians are in the city of Gaza. Thousands of residents have already left the city, located in the northern part of the enclave, where the war began after an unprecedented attack by the Palestinian Islamic Organization in Israel on October 7, 2023.
