An Israeli Army (IDF) document distributed to the Armed Forces ranks concludes that the military operation “Gideon’s tanks”, the large -scale attack launched by the Israeli army against Hamas in May.

According to a part of the document released by Channel 12, the military operation did not achieve any of its goals, namely the overthrow of Hamas military or the release of hostages.

While IDF leader Eial Zamir, and other senior officers have publicly praised the operation, internal evaluation explicitly states that “Israel made every possible mistake” in the campaign.

The evaluation accuses the army of acting to “unlike military doctrine itself”, providing the enemy through humanitarian aid, failing to impose time pressure, malevolent resources and eventually exhausting its own strengths while eroding international support.

According to the document, Hamas at the same time enjoyed all the conditions necessary to survive, showing that she records success, detaching resources, securing territories through an appropriate battle method.

As is emphasized, Israel’s dependence on “the logic of deterrence rather than the decisive victory” pursuing a ceasefire and hostage release with Hamas – and the “inability” to design and distribute aid, which, as he says, allowed Hamas to “successfully”.

The IDFs are criticized for repeated maneuvering in the same areas at a slow pace, giving priority to avoid victims over the success of the mission. It also does for deterioration, human resources, and poor preparation for guerrilla warfare as basic reasons for failure.
