A man who stabbed and injured five people in Marseille this afternoon fell dead by police bullets who rushed to the spot.
One of the victims is in critical condition, said city prosecutor Nikola Besson.
The perpetrator launched his attack on the old port of the city, an area where it is known to be drug trafficking.
Besson told reporters that the perpetrator was a legal immigrant in France and the fight began after being kicked out of the hotel because he was not paying the rent.
An eyewitness, a resident of this district, told reporters that police had arrived in the area “very quickly”. “They tried to capture him outside a fast food and the man attempted to attack a police officer with a knife. The policeman shouted: Stop, Stamata »narrated.
Another witness said he saw a man holding “two big hugs”. A source with knowledge of the case said the attack began after a quarrel “outside a kebab restaurant”.
The whole area has been blocked by the police and the itineraries were interrupted on two tram lines.
