The US News Agency (AP) today challenged the arguments raised by the Israeli army to justify blows in a hospital in the southern strip of Gaza, where five Palestinian journalists were killed, including one of them.
On August 25, 22 people in total were killed by air strikes in a Nasser Nasser Hospital building, according to Gaza Strip authorities. The next day, the Israeli army, citing an “initial investigation”, said the aim was to “eliminate a threat” because it was found in the area “a camera placed by Hamas to monitor the activity of the soldiers” to attack them.
Today, however, AP writes that the results of his own research “strongly challenge” the version of the army who is fighting Hamas in Gaza after the Palestinian organization launched on Israeli territory on October 7, 2023. Video. Eyewitnesses say that unmanned aircraft are “regularly” flying from above, as happened on that day, “about 40 minutes before the attack,” the article continues.
The AP cites an Israeli military who told him, asking not to be named, that the army came to the conclusion that a camera on the hospital’s terrace was used by Hamas because it was covered, as was its operator, with a towel, which was considered “suspected”.
In fact, it was journalist Hosham al -Masri, a partner of the Reuters agency, who used to pull plans from the terrace and could easily be identified by the unmanned aircraft that passed before the first blow.
Masri was killed by the attack.
The AP notes that he found no proof that there was another camera on the spot that day.
The agency also explains that covering the camera with a cloth to protect it from the elements of nature is a widespread practice to the cameramen.
The AP also says that it has discovered other “problematic decisions” of Israelis that day. “Shortly after the first blow, the Israeli forces hit the same position again,” rescuers and journalists had rushed to the area to cover the incident. Overall, Israel hit the hospital with “tanks with a high explosive load” and without any warning. This leaves Israel exposed to accusations of a “double blow”, a practice aimed at maximizing the number of victims and could be a war crime.
Mariam Daga, an independent photographer, who worked with the AP, was killed in the next blows.
When asked by the French Agency for this article, the Israeli army referred to the August 26 announcement, which stated that the Chief of the General Staff ordered the investigation of the blow, mainly on what was “the process of making a decision”.
