More than forty countries, including the US, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Greece and Cyprus, expressed a joint statement by the Polish Foreign Minister their “deep concern” of Poland’s airspace violations by Russian drones on 9th.
According to the countries’ statement, “the Russian Federation carried out nineteen violations of unmanned aircraft in the Polish airspace”, which “pose a real threat to the civilian population, infrastructure and safety of the aviation” and “prevented”.
Poland, for the first time in its history, called for a security of the Security Council to convene, stressing that “Russia’s reckless actions are a violation of international law and destabilizing escalation that brings the region closer to the conflict than ever in recent years.”
The countries that co -signed the statement called on Russia “to stop the offensive war against Ukraine without delay, to avoid further challenges and to comply with the obligations of the UN Charter”.
“Scaling cannot and will not pave the way for peace,” it notes. “Only the commitment to sovereignty, territorial integrity and peaceful disputes can create the conditions for a just and lasting peace in Europe and beyond.”
The text of the statement:
“I would like to read a statement on behalf of the governments of Albania, Andoras, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Canada, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Moldova, Monaco, Norway, Netherlands, Portugal, Romania, Agios Marinos, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Ukraine, Ukraine
We are here to express our deep concern and to draw the attention of the international community in yet another blatant violation of international law and the statute of the United Nations, committed by the Russian Federation.
The Russian Federation, attacked on the Ukrainian territory on the night of September 9, carried out nineteen violations of unmanned aircraft in Poland’s airspace. The drones, which have been a real threat to the civilian population, infrastructure and aviation safety, were preventively neutralized. For the first time since the beginning of the Russian full -scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022, Poland’s territorial integrity was violated in such an unprecedented and massive way – and at the same time the airspace of NATO and the EU. This unacceptable incident preceded various Russian violations.
As a result, Poland, for the first time in its history, decided to seek the urgent meeting of the UN Security Council, acting in the spirit of preventive diplomacy. The meeting was requested because Russia’s reckless actions constitute not only a violation of international law, but also a destabilizing escalation that brings the entire region closer to the conflict from any other time in recent years. Such a challenge is deeply disrespectful to the international community’s collective and uninterrupted efforts to end war and restore peace and stability under international law. We thank the Republic of Korea, which chairs the Council, for the convening of the meeting.
On this occasion, we reiterate our call to the Russian Federation to stop the offensive war against Ukraine without delay, to avoid further challenges and to comply with the obligations arising from the United Nations Charter.
Scaling cannot and will not pave the way for peace. Only the commitment to the principles of sovereignty, territorial integrity and peaceful disputes can create the conditions for a fair and lasting peace in Europe and beyond it. “
The US is signing the announcement
The United States united with Western allies today, co -signed a joint statement, expressing concern about the invasion of Russian drones in Poland, accusing Moscow of violating international law and the United Nations Charter.
The announcement, read by Polish Foreign Minister Marcin Bosachki, before the UN Security Council meeting, also calls on Russia to stop “its offensive war against Ukraine” and to abstain from further challenges.
US President Donald Trump said yesterday that the invasion of Russian drones in Poland could have been by mistake.
In response today, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said that the invasions this week of unmanned aircraft in his country’s airspace were not due to a Russian mistake.
