Pope Leo the ID has given his first interview since he was elected Pontiff. The interview was given by Pontiff to the American magazine CRUX and her excerpts were published today by the Peruvian newspaper El Comercio.

The Pope emphasized that the difference between the rich and poor income is increasing, as well as that between employees and managers of private companies. Then the American Pontiff added:

“I read the news that Elon Musk is going to become the first trillionaire in the world. What is it and what does it mean? If this is the only thing that has value today, then there is a big problem.”

With reference to the Ukrainian, he stressed that he believes that pressure should be exerted, in many ways, to make it clear that the differences can be resolved in another way. “I firmly believe that we can never lose hope. I have great confidence in the human species,” Pope Prevost said.

According to the Holy Father of the Catholics, in our time “polarization seems to be one of the strongest words. But it does not help anyone. Or if it helps some, it is a minimum, since everyone else is suffering.”

Regarding how his life has changed in recent months, Pope Leo stressed that “there are still many things to learn”. As he explained, “the new element is that it was suddenly found at the level of international leaders” and that “this period is discovering the role played by the Holy See in the field of diplomacy”.

Lastly, in the process of syncs within the Roman Catholic Church, Pope Leo said: “The goal is not to turn the Church into a kind of democratic government, because, if we look at many countries today, democracy is not – in place – the perfect solution.”
