A museum of virtual reality for the suffering of thousands of dissident prisoners in the Syrian prisons of the Bashar al -Assad regime, created a Syrian organization.
The Syrian Museum of Syrian Prison presents three -dimensional virtual tours of prisons – including the notorious, underground prison of Saydnaya near Damascus, the “Human Slaughterhouse” – testimonies of former prisoners, as well as studies and studies.
“The Museum seeks to keep black pages alive in the collective memory in Syrian history, associated with violence, murders and prisons,” its founder, Astar Matar, told the French Agency (AFP).

According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, more than two million Syrians were imprisoned by the Assad family, which ruled Syria for more than 50 years until the fall of Bashar al-Assad in December 2024.
More than 200,000 people have died in prison, executed or underwent torture, according to the Observatory.

Following the fall of Bashar al-Assad from the Islamist coalition under Ahmed al-Sarah, the organization worked with Syrian and international organizations specializing in missing and criminal justice to create this virtual museum.
“We were afraid that these prisons would be destroyed before we could substantiate their existence, but so far we have managed to visit 70 of them,” Matar said.
According to the organizers, the museum aims to “honor the victims, to reinforce survivors’ voices and to gather evidence to lead those responsible to justice”.
