At least 18 civilians were killed today during the attacking paramilitary attack in the besieged city of El Fasser in West Sudan, according to hospital sources at the French News Agency (AFP).
El Fasser is the last big city in the western Darfur that remains under the control of the Sudanese army, almost two and a half years after the outbreak of the war between the Sudanese Armed Forces that are loyal to General Abdel Fatah al -Buros, and the Paramilitaries junta.
The report released by hospital sources concerns only the victims transferred to hospitals in the area. Many dead were buried, according to the same sources, in the southern part of the refugee camp Abu Suk.
Eyewitnesses and volunteer organizations say that DYA paramilitaries have been promoted Monday in the northern suburbs of El Fasser. “Several civilians were killed in their homes, others were arrested under mysterious conditions,” they said, describing the escalation of conflicts, bombings and constant drones “for a second consecutive day”.
Under siege for more than 500 days, the city of El Fasser hosts about 260,000 inhabitants, half of whom are children, according to UN data. Humanitarian aid is almost non -existent.
The war in Sudan has claimed life in tens, if not hundreds of thousands of people, has forced millions to abandon their homes and has caused “the worst humanitarian crisis in the world” – as the UN points out.
