Hamas, which the United Kingdom and many other countries have described as a terrorist organization, welcomed the news that the United Kingdom, Canada and Australia officially recognized the Palestinian state.

In a statement, the armed group and political movement in Gaza states: “This recognition is an important step in confirming the right of the Palestinian people on earth and its sacred places, as well as the establishment of its independent state with the capital of Jerusalem,” the BBC notes.

But he adds that this move “must be accompanied by practical measures” that will lead to the “immediate end” of the war in Gaza and will “confront” settlement plans on the West Bank.

It also calls on the international community and the UN to “stop any form of cooperation and coordination” with Israel.

Higher Hamas official welcomes the recognition of the Palestinian state

A senior Hamas official told CNN that today’s United Kingdom, Canada and Australia movement officially recognizing Palestine is a “welcome step”.

“Every step that reinforces the legal rights of the Palestinians, with the first and foremost the fully dominant Palestinian state with the capital of Jerusalem and the right to self -determination, is a welcome step,” Basem Naim, a senior member of Hamas, told CNN.

However, Naim added that this recognition must “be accompanied by practical measures on the spot to confirm these rights and the deterrence of Zionist plans that explicitly reject any Palestinian political entity”.

“It should be emphasized that the highest priority now is to stop the genocide and ethnic cleansing in the Gaza Strip and to end the humanitarian exclusion of the area,” he said.
