No surprises, Germany’s attitude to the UN, despite the international pressure and attitude of its allies. Heavy Criticism from the Left to the Government: “Germany to do the right”. In response from Berlin

International pressure on Germany is intensifying its attitude towards the issue of the recognition of the Palestinian state, as a series of states are recognizing a Palestinian state. German Foreign Minister Johann Vandeful, who represents Germany at the UN General Assembly in New York, has reiterated that Germany will not currently recognize a Palestinian state, but the negotiation of a two -state solution will have to start now.

He reiterated Berlin’s position that “for Germany, the recognition of a Palestinian state is likely to come to the end of the process”, which can however be “now”.

Vandeful: “Gaza situation in Gaza”

He stressed, however, that two years after Hamas’ terrorist attack on Israel on October 7, 2023, there is no way out of the “conflict” and that “immediate ceasefire, significantly more humanitarian aid for the people of Gaza and immediate release of hostages” is required. At the same time, he described the Israeli attack on Gaza. “

In terms of Israeli settlements, he stressed that “steps that lead to the annexation of occupied territories in violation of international law undermine the possibility of sustainable solution” and that only the solution of two states will allow Israeli and Palestinians to live with dignity.

As part of his participation in the special conference convened by France and Saudi Arabia to promote the solution of two states, the German Foreign Minister called the situation in Gaza. Under the pressure of questions, Johann Vandeful also added that “everyone knows that Germany is particularly responsible for the State of Israel, as well as a special relationship with it.” For the same reason, it considers that Germany also has a particular responsibility for the process of establishing a Palestinian state in the future.

Left: Germany to show courage

At the same time, the German government is receiving strong criticism within the country, both social and political. Its leftist party calls on the German government to recognize a Palestinian state after Britain, Canada, Australia, Portugal and other countries.

The co -chairman of the left Aner Sverdner said Germany’s hesitant attitude “means wrong appreciation” of the dramatic situation in Gaza.

“Courage means choosing the right side now,” he told the German News Agency. It blames the Mertz government that it is “turning a blind eye” and stresses that the recognition of a Palestinian state is not only symbolic. “He sends a clear message that a peaceful future in the Middle East is only possible based on a two -state solution.”
