Britain is ready to intercept Russian aircraft violating NATO airspace, British Foreign Minister Ivet Cooper said, sending rigorous warning that these actions are at risk of provoking ‘Immediate armed confrontation’ with the western alliance.

Speaking at an extraordinary UN Security Council meeting, which was convened after repeated Russian violations in NATO member states, Cooper stressed: “We are ready to take all the necessary steps to defend the heavens and the territory of NATO. We are vigilant. We are determined. And if we need to deal with airplanes operating in NATO’s airspace without permission, then we will do so. ”

As he warned, Russian violations “They have the risk of incorrect calculation” and “they open the door to an immediate armed confrontation between NATO and Russia” while arguing that “NATO’s power is unmatched.”
