Donald Trump’s constant folding on the war in Ukraine have left Kiev and his allies in uncertainty about Washington’s attitude. In one latest development, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk warned that the conversion of the US president in favor of Ukraine could actually mark American unblocking from the war with Russia.

Trump, who for a long time reproduced Kremlin’s rhetoric on Moscow’s full -scale invasion and had stated that Ukraine would never regain its pre -2014 border, surprised the allies when this week he could suggest that Kiev could have been able to fight this week.

The EU hastened to credit the change of attitude, with a European Commission spokesman arguing that Trump has been influenced by his regular contacts with President Ursula von der Laien.

Tusk had a different interpretation of Trump’s apparent folding. Reading “between the lines”, he warned on Thursday that the US president appears to be moving away from his commitment to end the war.

“President Trump said Ukraine could, with the support of the European Union, recover all its territory. This unexpected optimism actually hides a promise of reduced American involvement and shift in responsibility for ending war in Europe, “the Polish prime minister wrote on social media. “Truth is better than illusion.”

Trump had previously threatened to leave the negotiations between Ukraine and Russia, and has admitted that the war is proven to be more difficult to end than he expected, though surprising the Western allies with the message on Tuesday night.

“I believe that Ukraine, with the support of the European Union, is able to fight and win its entire territory in its original form,” he wrote in a post shortly after his meeting with Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelenski on the sidelines.

“We will continue to supply weapons to NATO to do whatever it wants with them. Good luck to everyone! ” added.
