The Valencia region and other areas in eastern Spain today remain in a red alert, following heavy rainfall during the night, without, however, causing very serious damage, 11 months after the October 2024 deadline.
“Fortunately, there were not many events during the night,” Valencia’s autonomous region, Juan Carlos Valderama, told the Spanish press, who, however, estimates that the situation remains “unstable and somewhat uncertain”.
The Spanish Meteorological Service (AETE) maintained the Red Alarm on the Valencia province coasts, but reduced the alarm level to orange on the southern coast of Catalonia and the northern part of the Valencia community.
On Sunday night to Monday, rainfall caused floods and overflow of a current in Aldias, one of the communities most affected by the tragic floods that resulted in the deaths of more than 230 people on October 29th of the same year, just before 11 months ago. But there were no casualties this time.
The rains resulted in delays in transport, especially railways, while more than half a million students in 243 municipalities did not go to school.
The Valencia Municipal Authority has decided not to open schools and universities. Libraries, parks, gardens and cemeteries also remained closed.
“There was a panic because of what happened, the citizens are very scared,” Jose Luis Ruth, a 64 -year -old pensioner from Aldaia, explained to AFTV.
“Everyone removed their cars from the area, we insured the doors and we almost slept at all at night,” he continued.
Yesterday, AeMet put some parts of the Tarragona, Castegie and Valencia provinces, even referring to a “very high risk” of flooding.
Residents also received a message from civil protection on their mobile phone very early, with which the authorities asked them to be very careful, while a year ago, a similar message was sent very late.
