Munich International Airport suspended its operation on Thursday night after notice of the presence of drones in its airspace.
As the agency reports Reutersall flights and arrivals were suspended, while many aircraft remained locked up and hundreds of passengers were found excluded.
It is estimated that about 3,000 passengers were affected by the suspension of airport operation.
According to a statement from the airport issued in the morning of Friday, 17 flights were canceled, while 15 flights were diverted to the airports of Stuttgart, Nuremberg, Vienna and Frankfurt.
It all started around 9:30 pm (local time, 22:30 in Greece), when eyewitnesses reported drones overflows in the airport area. As the authorities were conducting an investigation, the mysterious drones were re -seen about an hour later, this time above the airport, as a police spokesman confirmed Stefan Bayer in the newspaper Bild. So far there are no reports of injuries or further incidents.
The airport administration decided to suspend operating around 22:30 (local time, 23:30) when a ban on landing and take -off of aircraft.
It is worth noting that the number of flights is limited from 10pm to midnight, while the airport does not operate after midnight to avoid noise pollution.
Currently, the German authorities are unable to assure the smooth operation of the international airport after 5am on Friday. However, so far, no cancellations have been announced on the Munich Airport website.
