To Britain Police will gain more powers to impose restrictions on some demonstrations, the government said today, referring, in particular, to the Philosopher’s raising “great concern” in the country’s Jewish community.
The announcement was made three days after the attack outside a Manchester synagogue, where two people were killed and three others were seriously injured. The government and police have called for postponed or canceled, in solidarity with the Jewish community, the Philop -Galaistian demonstrations scheduled for this weekend. But something that was not done and was described as “shameful” by Interior Minister Sabana Mahmoud.
On Saturday, about a thousand people marched in favor of the Palestine Action organization, which has been described as “terrorist” by the government. Among them were many retirees, students, a priest and others.
Following Hamas’ unprecedented attack on Israel on October 7, 2023, which triggered the war in the Gaza Strip, there were regularly organized pro -Palestinian demonstrations in London and other British cities. “Large -scale repeated demonstrations can lead some parts of our country, especially religious communities, feel insecure,” the minister said. With the reform of the legislation it will protect the right to demonstration but at the same time the authorities will ensure that everyone “feels safe in this country”, he added.
Police will be able to impose “conditions” and “restrictions” on the demonstrations or “limit their duration”.
“If a demonstration is held in the same place for many, consecutive weeks and repeatedly causes problems, the police will be able, for example, to order the organizers to do it elsewhere,” the ministry said in a statement.
These announcements constitute “a new slap in our Republic” reacted by the Defend Our Juries team, which organizes support rallies in the Palestine Action. Group members have promised to “intensify” their mobilizations in view of a Palestine Action prohibition in late November.
About 2,000 supporters of the Palestine Action (of which 488 on Saturday) have been arrested on charges of “supporting forbidden organization”. The reason for its ban, in July, were the vandalism on a British Air Force basis.
