Hamas requested written and not oral guarantees for Israel’s commitment to a truce, according to leaks from the negotiations made in Egypt with the aim of ceasing fire and peace in the Gaza Strip.
The first round of negotiations between the Palestinian organization and the mediators on the hostage exchange agreement was “characterized by a positive climate”, as sources cited by the Al Jazeera.
The organization confirmed on Wednesday that lists of prisoners were exchanged, in the context of indirect talks aimed at reaching a truce agreement.
The three basic issues
According to a Hamas announcement, the conversations focus on three main points: The end of the war, the departure of the Israeli forces from the Gaza Strip, and the exchange of prisoners.
Taner al-Nuno, a communications adviser to the head of Hamas’ political office, said the delegation had shown positivity and responsibility to promote efforts to an agreement. The mediators, he added, make great efforts to remove any obstacle, while a spirit of optimism prevails on all sides.
US President Donald Trump envoys Steve Witkov and Jared Koussner arrived in Sharm El-Egypt, Egypt, on Wednesday morning, to participate in the ongoing negotiations for truce and hostages.
