Merchant ship hit by rocket in Mariupol – Crew member injured

A merchant ship under flag of Dominica was hit by Russian rocket in Mariupol and a member of his crew needed medical attention, one reported today Ukrainian official.

His engine room ship Azburg was hit by the rocket late Monday night, according to Victor Vishnovτον Deputy of the Port Authority of Ukraine.

“The ship burned and the 12 crew members were transferred to another boat. “One of the members needed medical treatment,” Wisnoff told Reuters.

The official did not know if the ship was carrying any cargo.

According to the British security company Ambrey Intelligence, Azburg arrived in Mariupol on February 23 and could not sail after closing the port. His owner company, based in Malta, has not commented.

THE International Maritime Organization (IMO)which constitutes UN body, reported that as of March 30 there were still 86 merchant ships in the Ukrainian ports and territorial waters of Ukraine with about 1,000 sailors who could not leave due to the war. Supplies run out on these ships, which are simultaneously endangered by missiles and mines.

“Apart from the dangers posed by the bombings, many of these ships are now facing shortages of food, fuel, drinking water and other basic necessities,” according to the IMO.
