The Spanish prime minister Pedro Sanchez He said today that the truce agreement, which was concluded between Israel and Hamas, should not be synonymous with “oblivion” and that “the main perpetrators of the genocide” in Gaza should be held accountable for their actions before justice.

“Peace cannot mean oblivion, it cannot mean impunity,” the socialist leader said in an interview with the Spanish radio station Cadena Ser today.

“The faces that were the main perpetrators of the genocide committed in Gaza (…) should be held accountable before justiceTherefore, there can be no impunity, “he added when he was asked about the possibility of judicial prosecutions against his Israeli counterpart, Benjamin Netanyahu.

Spain, one of the most critical European voices for Israeli actions in Gaza, had already announced in September that the Spanish prosecutor’s office was to investigate the “serious violations” of human rights, committed in the Gaza Strip to cooperate with the Gaza Strip.

The prosecutor of the ICC has issued arrest warrants against Benjamin Netanyahu and former Israeli Defense Minister Joav Galad as suspects of crimes against humanity and war crimes.

Spain is also one of the countries involved in the procedure launched by South Africa before the International Court – a court different from the ICC – and in which Israel is accused of committing “genocide” in the Gaza Strip.

Pedro Sanchez, who participated in Egypt on Monday at the Gaza Summit, also said that the embargo on weapons or destination in Israel, which was adopted last week by Spanish MPs, remains in place.

“We will maintain this embargo until this whole process is stabilized and permanently oriented towards peace,” he explained.

In addition, the measures he had taken in early September to “stop the genocide in Gaza (…) remain in force,” he said.

“We are on a ceasefire. Therefore, what we must do is to stabilize this ceasefire and lead it to a peace process, “added the socialist prime minister, who also opened the door to Spain’s participation in a possible mission to guarantee peace.

“If this is to be done, Spain wants to be present and to be active, not only in rebuilding, but also in this peace horizon,” he said.
