The European Commission and the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT) today launched the European Academy of Advanced Materials in the Days of Education and Skills of EIT 2025. The Academy will train a workforce ready for the future, which will enhance its innovative and innovative position in Europe. It will contribute to key EU priorities, such as promoting competitiveness and innovation, developing skills and attracting scientists to choose Europe.
Advanced are the new or improved better -performance materials that allow the creation of greener, safer and more efficient technologies. They include materials for pure energy, sustainable mobility, digital devices and durable constructions, support for Europe’s green and digital transition and enhancing industrial competitiveness. To meet Europe’s urgent need for a specialized workforce in these areas, the Academy aims to draw up 200,000 people by 2029.
The initiative supports the implementation of the EU strategy “advanced materials for industrial superiority”, which was announced in 2024. It also supports the forthcoming legislative act on advanced materials, which is scheduled for 2026 and is one of the emblematic activities of the Competitiveness. The practice will support the entire life cycle of advanced materials so that innovations are available faster on the market and stimulate their production and availability throughout the EU. The existence of a specialized workforce will be crucial to achieving this goal.
