The horrors in the Ukrainian city of Bukhara may simply be “the tip of the iceberg” in the aggressive war waged by Russia, according to the US presidency.
The Russian armed forces “probably also committed atrocities” in parts of Ukraine that are not accessible at the moment, White House spokeswoman Jen Psaki said on Tuesday.
“Unfortunately, what we predicted happened and we have probably only seen the tip of the iceberg (…). “We do not have access to an area of the country where (the Russian military) may have also committed atrocities.”
The United States has long warned that the “intention” of Russian President Vladimir Putin and the Russian military was to commit atrocities in Ukraine, he insisted.
The location of hundreds of civilian bodies in Bouka has caused an international outcry. Kyiv, Washington and their allies accuse the Russian military of torturing and executing innocent people. Moscow denies this, characterizes these accusations as non-existent and fabricated. US President Joe Biden has called on Vladimir Putin to stand trial for war crimes, which the Kremlin has rejected.
The US government is preparing to announce new sanctions against Russia today, which will include in particular a ban on “any investment” in the country, Ms. Psaki said earlier.
