Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky called on Donald Trump to raise his voice against Vladimir Putin, assuring him that the Russian president is “not stronger than Hamas,” in an interview broadcast today by the NBC television network.
“That’s why pressure is needed” against Moscow, he says in the interview given on Friday.
Donald Trump had promised to end when he returned to the White House the wars in Ukraine and the Gaza Strip, missions that have proved more difficult than he had hoped.
After celebrating a ceasefire deal in Gaza that took effect on October 10 and now hanging in the balance, Trump has set his sights on doing the same in Ukraine.
On Friday, he welcomed Volodymyr Zelensky to the White House and pressed him for a cessation of hostilities, turning a deaf ear to his requests for increased military support.
At the same time, he resumed the dialogue with Putin and the two of them agreed to meet soon in Budapest. A meeting in which, as Zelensky told NBC, he wants to participate: “I’m ready, I told the president: ‘I’m ready’.”
“He wanted to know my opinion”he said, assuring that Donald Trump “he will discuss it with Putin.”
“My view is that if we really want a just and sustainable peace, we need two sides.”
