British Prime Minister Keir Starmer intends to invite the member countries of the so-called today alliance of the willingwho support Ukraine, yes “increase donations” long-range weapon systems in Kiev during a meeting organized in London, attended by Volodymyr Zelensky.
This meeting is scheduled to take place in the afternoon, the day after the EU Summit in Brussels, in which the Ukrainian president also participated.
The Danish Prime Minister is also expected in the British capital Mete Fredericksenits Dutch counterpart Dick Schoff and the NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, according to a press release from Mr. Starmer’s services.
Another twenty leaders – among them will be the president of France Emmanuel Macron – are expected to take part in the talks via video links, Downing Street said.
They participate in this alliance of the willing 26 countries, mainly European. It is co-directed by Mr. Starmer and Macron.
“The prime minister is expected to call on leaders to put Ukraine in the strongest possible position as winter approaches”his services explained in the announcement they made public.
As well as strengthening sanctions on Russian hydrocarbons, Mr Starmer will call on his partners to “finish the job of using Russian resources to release billions to fund Ukrainian defense and increase donations of long-range (weapons) systems.”
The Europeans already supply relatively long-range missiles to the Ukrainian armed forces, notably French SCALP and British Storm Shadowbut in small amounts.
Ukraine, which also produces some missiles of this type (Neptune, Flamingo), on the contrary persistently requests, without success, German Taurus missiles. While the US have so far refused to hand over Tomahawk missiles, as hoped by Mr. Zelensky.
Mr Starmer is yet to make an announcement “acceleration” of the British manufacturing programme 5,000 missiles intended for the defense of Ukraine.
About 140 of them “light multi-role missiles” they are expected to be delivered in the winter, according to the announcement.
