The pro-European president of Moldova Maya Sandou appointed the economist and businessman today Alexandrou Mudeanou in his place prime ministerfollowing his party’s victory in last month’s parliamentary elections.
“After consultations with parliamentary groups, I signed today the decree appointing Mr. Alexandros Mundeanou as a candidate for the position of Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova”, Sandou said via Facebook.
The center-right Action and Solidarity Party (PAS) secured September 55 seats out of a total of 101, a number sufficient to form a new self-governing government and keep the former Soviet republic on a pro-European course.
The elections were considered decisive for the future of the country of 2.4 million inhabitantsbordering Ukraine and Romania.
Parliament is expected to vote to approve his appointment Mundeanu next week.
61-year-old Alexandrou Mudeanou he has no experience in politics and has made rare public appearances.
