In particular, Peshkov, referring to the latest tragic images from Mariupol and Butsa, denied any Russian responsibility and spoke of Ukrainian directing. He also said that Ukrainian nationalists were using the civilian population as a pretext and that the Russian army was only targeting military targets. However, he was not in the mood to support international research, questioning both the reliability of satellite imagery and the ability to find objective observers.
As for Ukraine, he said that Russia invaded because, as he had previously pointed out, he considered NATO enlargement to the east a threat. He blamed France and Germany for not respecting what had been agreed in Ukraine in the past, and said there was a need for a new international system.
Peshkov also spoke of Russian military superiority and was asked to comment on how Moscow would react if Poland accepted Poland’s offer to accept nuclear weapons on its territory. .
On the other hand, Peshkov wanted to appear relatively constructive, welcoming the fact that French President Emanuel Macron continues to consult regularly with President Putin and left open the possibility of a meeting between Putin and Zelensky in the near future.
Asked by the French journalist if Moscow wants to fall or even be killed, Zelensky answered in the negative. Asked about Putin’s characterization of drug addicts, he said he did not know what Zelensky was drinking or smoking, but stressed that what mattered was recognizing Crimea’s annexation.
As for what Russia will do if Europe imposes an embargo on Russian gas, he replied that he will look for other countries – buyers, without saying which ones.
Finally, when asked by the journalist if Putin has the fate of Ceausescu or Gaddafi, he said that Putin is not a dictator but has the great support of the Russian people, that the CIA does not have good information about what is happening in Russia and that bringing Putin to international tribunal is neither legally nor physically feasible.
