The head of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization (CTBTO) said today that any nuclear weapons test would be harmful to global non-proliferation efforts and peace and security.
In a statement issued after US President Donald Trump ordered the US military to immediately resume nuclear weapons testing, NPT Executive Secretary Robert Floyd says he was aware of public statements calling attention to existing concerns about nuclear weapons testing.
“Any nuclear weapons test conducted by any state would be harmful and destabilizing to global nuclear non-proliferation efforts and to international peace and security. The OSADP monitoring system is ready to record such tests and provide the data to the states that have signed the Treaty,” said Floyd.
“Like others, I see in this complex and challenging moment an opportunity for world leaders to step forward and work together, on an equal basis, to ratify the Treaty on the Comprehensive Ban of Nuclear Weapons and the common goal of a world free of nuclear weapons testing,” he added.
