The Curiosity lived for years in a tiny cage, according to the Dutch Zoo. The war in Ukraine worsened the situation when its owner joined the army.
“Now that the war is going on, the owners are no longer able to take care of the animal”he stated Ingrid Vermulen, director of the Bears in Mind Foundationwho works to protect bears.
“Food becomes scarce and we see these species of animals now usually left behind due to the impending threat of war”Vermoulen said in a statement.
Kiriousa was a circus bear for the first 6 years of her life, before being placed in a hotel, in a children’s camp, where lived in a cage, on a concrete floor “with little space to move,” according to the Ouwehands Dierenpark in Rennes.
After a period of quarantine, the mammal will live with other abused bears in a forest managed by the institution and the zoo.
Like other European countries, for example Belgium and Spain, the Netherlands has already welcomed injured and malnourished Ukrainian felines.
