THE Prime Minister of the United Kingdom apologized after imposition of a fine on him by the Metropolitan Police in the context of investigations into parties at government offices amid a lockdown, but clarified that he does not intend to resign, as demanded by the opposition.
“I paid the fine and I apologize in full”said Mr. Johnson from the official prime minister’s residence in Checkers, clarifying that the fine concerns the gathering for his birthday in the cabinet hall on June 19, 2020.
As he said, in the middle of a busy day, shortly after 2 in the afternoon, there was a “short gathering” that lasted for less than ten minutes. “In all honesty, I did not think then that this might have been a violation of the regulations, but of course the police judged differently and I fully respect the result of their investigation.”
Asked if he would resign as he becomes the first incumbent Prime Minister in the UK to be found to have broken the law, he said no.
“I want to be able to continue with the mandate I have and face the problems of this country. My job is to continue and bring results for the people of this country. “he added.
He commented that he sincerely accepts that the people have the right to expect better from themselves and that he now has a “greater sense of obligation” to act on the priorities of the British people.
According to information, the fine imposed on Boris Johnson was in the order of 50 pounds. It is believed that other fines could be imposed on him for other rallies that are under investigation.
Prime Minister Carrie Simonds’s wife, Finance Minister Risi Sunak, and more than 50 other party attendees have also been asked to pay a fine.
