The British Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced that he paid the fine imposed for violating the measures against the pandemic, on the occasion of a party organized on Downing Street for his birthday, in June 2020.
At the same time, he publicly apologized, understanding – as he said – the reactions of public opinion.
“I have to say, quite honestly, that at that moment it did not cross my mind that this was a violation of the rules. “Of course, the police judged differently and I fully respect the outcome of the investigation,” he told the BBC.
Following in the footsteps of Prime Minister Boris Johnson, Finance Minister Risi Sunak also apologized for violating the 2020 blockade against the coronavirus outbreak and said he had paid the fine.
“I am sorry for the frustration and anger that has been caused,” the British finance minister said in a statement.
For his part, Labor leader Kir Starmer had earlier called for Johnson and Sunak to resign.
“Boris Johnson and Risi Sunak have broken the law and repeatedly lied to the British people. “Both must resign,” he said, adding that the Conservative Party was “completely unfit to govern.” “Britain deserves more.”
