Moscow launches investigation into alleged torture of Russian soldiers in Ukraine

Russia’s Investigative Committee said today that launched a criminal investigation for torture allegedly committed by members of the Ukrainian armed forces at the expense of Russian soldiers as Moscow continues its military campaign in Ukraine.

The commission, which is prosecuting serious crimes, said some Russian soldiers had been captured by Ukrainian forces in the area. Zaporizhia and Mikolajif and were held illegally by the Security Service of Ukraine.

“Russians have been subjected to physical violence and torture in order to force them to give false explanations about the real situation of their illegal detention at the premises of the Security Service of Ukraine, as well as about the (Russian) special military operation,” it said in a statement.

Reuters was unable to confirm the commission’s claims from an independent source.

Ukraine has said it controls all information on the treatment of prisoners of war and will investigate any violations and take appropriate legal action.

THE Alexander Bastrykinhead of the Commission of Inquiry, also today ordered an investigation into alleged bombings by Ukrainian civilian forces in the self-proclaimed Luhansk Democratic Republic as they drove away through his neighboring province Kharkov.

Russia sent tens of thousands of soldiers in Ukraine on February 24 in what he called special company to undermine the military capabilities of its southern neighbor and uproot people it calls dangerous nationalists.

Ukrainian forces have put up strong resistance and the West has imposed sweeping sanctions on Russia in a bid to force it to withdraw its forces.
