Unimaginable images coming in the last few days from Shanghai to an out-of-bounds area aimed at curbing the transmission of the coronavirus’s Micron mutation seem to be turning the calendar back to early 2020, when Wuhan entered an unprecedented world situation.
Photos and videos arriving from the financial capital of China show extremely harsh measures of restraint, even separating children from their parents for days just because they tested positive for the coronavirus.
The resistance to the measures of the people of Shanghai, unprecedented for the period of the pandemic, has surprised many. Some even suspect that there will be a general reaction against the Chinese authorities, as was recorded in the years before the pandemic in Hong Kong.
Chinese authorities claim that despite the thousands of cases, they do not have a single death from the new wave of coronavirus, which Western infectious disease specialists reasonably dispute.
The goal of the Chinese authorities is to eliminate the occurrence of cases in the areas of Shanghai that are not in quarantine, so that the Chinese big city can breathe and start its economic life again.
But the return to normalcy is expected to be slow, and it will be interesting to see if the Chinese’s humble mentality in the beginning will remain as it was, or if the Chinese regime will have to impose iron discipline as it did in Hong Kong.
