Russia: Exchange of Pro-Russian Ukrainian Politicians Appeared to Demand 2 British Prisoners

The release in exchange for the release from Kyiv of a pro-Russian Ukrainian politician appeared on state Russian television at noon the two Britons who have been captured by the Russians fighting in the ranks of the Ukrainian army.

Eden Ashlin and Sean Piner appeared separately on Rossiya 24 television station after receiving questions from an unidentified man.

Both have called on British Prime Minister Boris Johnson to release them in exchange for the release of Viktor Medvedev, a close friend of Vladimir Putin, who has been arrested by Ukrainian authorities on charges of treason.

Mr Medvechuk, 67, appeared in a video by the Ukrainian security intelligence service SBU requesting an exchange with defenders and residents of Mariupol.

The families of the two Britons have stressed that they are not volunteers or mercenaries, but members of the regular Ukrainian army and should therefore be dealt with under the Geneva Convention on Prisoners of War.
