Putin: There are no military operations in Mariupol

Russian President Vladimir Putin said today that the besieged Ukrainian city of Mariupol had been “liberated” and that no military operations were being conducted there, the Kremlin said, in defiance of Kyiv’s version of events.

The Kremlin said President Putin had told Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan that Kyiv should “take responsibility” for the people who ransacked the Azofstal steel plant and called on fighters there to lay down their arms.

“The lives of prisoners of war are guaranteed, medical care and treatment are in accordance with international legal standards,” the Kremlin said in a telephone interview with the two leaders.

THE Russia hit however over 90 military targets in Ukraine during the night, killing at least 500 Ukrainian soldiers and destroying dozens of armored vehicles and other military equipment, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced today.

Russia also said it had hit two munitions facilities in its territory Kharkovin eastern Ukraine.

One killed by rocket fire in Zaporizhia

At least one person has been killed and another injured when a rocket hit commercial buildings in the Zaporizhia region of southern Ukraine, according to local authorities.

The district administration said two rockets hit the buildings and a third exploded before it hit its target.

Donetsk separatist leader: The next phase of the “Russian campaign” begins

The Russian-backed separatist leader of his breakaway region Donetsk said today that Moscow is expected to launch the next phase of its military campaign in Ukraine after reaching the borders of the region, as reported by the RIA news agency.

Dennis Pushilin, leader of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic, made the remarks on a Russian show that aired online.
