The 54-year-old German tennis player, three-time Wimbledon champion, is accused of hiding income of hundreds of thousands of pounds, while he was eventually led to bankruptcy in 2017.
He reportedly transferred hundreds of thousands of dollars after his bankruptcy in June 2017 from his business account to other accounts, including those of Barbara’s ex-wife and his estranged wife Charlie.
The six-time Grand Slam champion denied all allegations, citing associates in charge of securing his assets, saying he had acted on expert advice.
At Friday’s hearing, prosecutor Rebecca Chalkley accused Becker of acting “Deliberately and dishonestly” and that he “continues to seek to blame others.”
The defense attorney asked for leniency, saying his client had not spent money on a “luxury lifestyle”, but on child support, rent and legal and business expenses.
