Masks still indoors in Italy, except in the workplace

by

Mask use in Italy will remain mandatory in schools, public transport and indoor events, but there is only a “strong recommendation” for all workplaces from the 1st of May.

Although across the EU countries are abolishing compulsory mask use indoors and in schools, Italy remains cautious.

Masks will remain mandatory until June 15 in schools, on all local and interurban public transport, at events and performances indoors, including cinemas, theaters, concerts and sports venues. In hospitals and treatment centers, the use of a mask will be mandatory by the end of 2022.

Rome removed the mask only in workplaces. Companies will be free to decide whether their employees should wear it at work or not.

The decision was made as the infections increase again. The Gimbe Observatory on Thursday said COVID-19 cases had risen by 22.7% in the past seven days.

In the meantime, the Green Pass will no longer be mandatory from May 1, except for hospitals and treatment centers, where it will be mandatory until the end of the year.
