Italy’s neo-fascist Brotherhood party first in the polls – Strong concern in the country

by

In the polls it reaches 22%, is currently the first party in the Italian voting intention. The Brothers of Italy, Fratelli d ‘Italia, hold its program assembly in Milan with four thousand participants.

It is a super-conservative force, which in its symbol still has the fascist flame that burns, according to its nostalgia, in the tomb of dictator Benito Mussolini. The party’s president, Georgia Melloni, was previously a New Generation minister in Berlusconi’s government but now wants to lead all conservative forces.

The point is that its positions, according to many analysts, continue to cause concern: it is constantly critical of the European Union and calls for strict restrictions on the presence of immigrants. He used to praise Putin, but now he is in favor of Ukraine. He asks Draghi “to regain his credibility, which ended up in the warehouse, to dust it off, and to work with the aim of changing the priorities of the National Recovery and Sustainability Plan.”

They do not condemn fascism

Melloni and her party are telling Lega and, of course, Berlusconi that from now on they will claim the leadership of the conservative front, because their polls allow it: Lega is at 15% of the voting intention and Forza Italia at 8%.

The Brothers of Italy, however, continue ndo not explicitly condemn fascism, and they repeat that it is simply a different historical period. In order not to lose, as it seems, some votes of the extreme right, political space.

What if the Italian Brothers win the election?

On June 12, the ballot boxes are set up for the municipal elections and in less than a year for the parliamentary elections. The big question is whether this party really emerges as the first political force, to what extent can the attitude and the overall policy of Italy change within the European Union?

It is difficult to form another broad coalition government, while the center-left rival faction is becoming increasingly weakened by the unstoppable, declining course of the Five Stars, the new allies of the progressive Democratic Party.

Questions and questions that at this stage are not easy to answer. It is clear, however, that after France, Europe’s interest – with all its concerns – is now turning to Italy.
