Ukraine: 8 civilians killed in strikes in Danietsk and Kharkiv

by

Eight civilians were killed Sunday in bombings in the Kharkiv and Danieck regions, four of them in the city of Lyman, near the front, which is threatened by Russian advance, the governors said.

“Russian bombing in the Danetsk region: four civilians were killed, all in Liman,” Governor Pavlo Kirilenko told the Telegram, adding that seven other civilians had been wounded in the city, where the Ukrainian army had recently been withdrawn.

He added that one civilian was wounded in Bakhmut, a town farther from the front, and four others were injured in various locations in eastern Ukraine.

For his part, Kharkov (northeast) Governor Oleg Sinegubov spoke via Telegram about three civilians killed and eight wounded yesterday in strikes against the city’s neighborhoods and other communities in the region.

Liman, a city of 20,000 before the war broke out, has been largely evacuated in recent days due to the advance of Russian troops, who have already occupied its environs, according to local authorities.

The Ukrainian army withdrew from the city, with its forces missing or in camouflaged positions, according to AFP reporters who recently went there.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky recently acknowledged that the situation is “difficult” in Donbass, a basin where mines are located in eastern Ukraine, a priority target for Russian troops who invaded the country on February 24.
